The Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España presented by Oysho gets underway tomorrow at the Real Guadalhorce Club de Golf, in Málaga, to round off an exciting season on the Ladies European Tour (LET). With 75 players in competition, including the best players on the tour and 11 guests, the tournament promises to be one of the most important sporting events of the year in Spain, with four days of battle of the highest level.
Carlota Ciganda, Open champion in 2021 and one of the great favourites for the title, highlighted her desire to compete: ‘It is always special to play at home and feel the support of the Spanish public. The Spanish Open is a very nice tournament that I always have marked on my calendar. This year I want to enjoy the course and give my best to be at the top on Sunday’. Regarding her season, the player from Navarre valued the progress she has made on the LPGA and expressed her desire to finish the year with a good result in Malaga.
Ana Pelaez from Malaga, who arrived after being crowned Spanish champion last week, shared her excitement about competing at home: ‘It’s a privilege to play in Malaga, surrounded by my people and on a course as special as Guadalhorce. Last week was magical, but now I have to reset and focus on this tournament. I want to enjoy every shot and give everything on the course. Peláez also invited the public to attend: ‘The atmosphere will be incredible and the sun will be with us, so there is no better plan than to come and enjoy this unique experience’.
The Real Guadalhorce Club de Golf, host of the tournament for the first time, is in perfect condition thanks to the exhaustive work carried out after the effects of the recent DANA that affected Malaga. The club’s staff, together with the greenkeeping section of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, have managed to leave the course in optimum condition, which has been praised by the players. This effort has been highlighted during the two days of pro-am, in which professionals and amateurs enjoyed a technical and varied course that is presented as an exciting challenge for the coming days.
The city of Malaga, meanwhile, is preparing to experience a truly exciting event. With 24 nationalities represented and a roster of 17 Spanish players and 7 rookies, the tournament stands out for its global character and emerging talent. In addition, Liz Young and Lee-Anne Pace, winner of the 2013 Open, will celebrate a special milestone with their 250th appearance on the LET, reaffirming the trajectory of two of the circuit’s leading players.
The Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España 2024 will bring together this season’s top winners on the LET, including Helen Briem, Bronte Law, Shannon Tan, Annabel Dimmock, Amy Taylor, Nicole Broch, Alice Hewson, Liz Young, Mannon de Roey, and Spain’s Marta Martín, who claimed victory at the Tipsport Czech Ladies Open. This impressive line-up bodes well for a vibrant battle in an event that will also feature the likes of Caroline Hedwall, Anne Van Dam and defending champion Aditi Ashok.
With four days of competition ahead, everything is set for the public to enjoy a tournament packed with excitement and talent at the Real Guadalhorce Club de Golf.
Around the green: activities for all ages
The event will not only be a golf party, but also a meeting point for all ages. The little ones will enjoy the Kids Area, while amateurs will be able to participate in activities such as the activation hole and simulator of Andalucía, Costa del Sol and the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation.
The public will have the opportunity to explore the Oysho showroom, located next to the clubhouse, where they can discover the latest in sports fashion and compete for different prizes in their mini-golf holes. In addition, there will be a tasting of Iberian ham, and the information tents of the City of Malaga, TOA Shoes and Awolf will provide interactive content and exclusive experiences for attendees.
