The player from Malaga has confirmed her presence at the tournament that will close the Ladies European Tour season from November 23rd to 26th at the Real Club de Golf Las Brisas course in Marbella.
Azahara Muñoz will be another of the great attractions of the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España, as the golfer from Malaga has confirmed her participation in a tournament that will put an end to the Ladies European Tour season and that will crown the winner of the Race to Costa del Sol, the Order of Merit of the European women’s circuit.
The Andalusian player has just signed her best result of the year on the LPGA Tour by sharing second place with American Alison Lee at The Annika, three strokes behind the winner, also American Lilia Vu.
With this great result, Azahara Muñoz has managed to keep the American women’s tour card for next year and, therefore, her end-of-season schedule will allow her to participate in the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España, where she is always surrounded by her family and friends.
Furthermore, the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España is very special for Azahara Muñoz, not only because it is held in her homeland, but also because she has won it twice, a feat that in the tournament’s history has only been replicated by one other player, Anne van Dam from the Netherlands.
And curiously, both one and the other achieved their victories consecutively: the Malaga native in 2016 and 2017, and the Dutchwoman in 2018 and 2019.Therefore, Azahara Muñoz will have before her the opportunity to make history in the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España 2023, as she could become the first player who manages to inscribe her name for the third time on the tournament’s list of winners, although the mission will not be at all easy in view of the cast of golfers who will meet at the Real Club de Golf Las Brisas.
“I am delighted to return to play the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España, as it is not only played in my homeland and allows me to feel the support of my family and friends, it is also a tournament that brings me very good memories because I have won it twice and, to top it off, it ends the season in Europe bringing together the best players on the circuit,” said Azahara.
“The second place I got in Florida this weekend has boosted my morale and made me see that I can fight with the best players again. I think playing the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España could be good for me to close the year in the best possible way and start the next one with confidence. Winning this tournament for the third time would be a dream”, concluded the player from Malaga.
